In this instance, it is remarkable that the Septuagint (LXX) omits two key statements from the verses that could unlock the riddle. One such passage is the account of the King and the two Prostitutes recorded in 1 Kings 3:16–28. Sometimes, the old Italian cynical remark ‘ traduttore, traditore’ (translator, traitor) holds sway in translations of scriptures.
